Week 1

Image A

This piece of work was created last year in the course BENV1080,
as one of the task to get students started and to test our ability in making
free-hand sketches. It focuses on making critical observation of the red center,
and then producing a poster which incorporates images with text.

The Puente del Alamillo designed by Santiago Calatrava, is a cable-stayed bridge that combines elegance and functionality in one structure. The structure is striking just like other works by Santiago Calatrava, who is renowned for bridging the gap between Civil Engineering and Architecture.

This image was taken in Hong Kong, where many old suburbs are undergoing
reconstruction and urban planning. The building in the image is one of the last of its type in the local suburb, which the government has taken the initiative to retain it and transform it into a Youth lodge. The building is a classical type of Hong Kong public housing in the 1960s and 1970s, and is of significant historical value to the Hong Kong community.
